Onto my 4th set of tyres now on 53k miles. The last 2 times I have replaced them with Sunny Winter tyres which were ok when new but as soon as they started to wear I felt it in the wet. So now I'm going to try Vredestein Sporttrac 5 they get a good rite up and came 2nd in a tyre test. £90 each not cheap but cheaper than a Dunlop or Michelin.

I worked daily with a subaru pickup years ago -the owner of it replaced the bridgestones with a set of vredestiens and it transformed the beast
Good choice

Seems like a good choice, Philip. Hope they do the business for you, anyone have any idea about tyre noise levels ?
I like my Kumho's but they are quite noisy.

I like my Kumho's but they are quite noisy. If you take a look on blackcircletyres.com the tyre label gives you the noise level. I think the Sportrac5 are 69dc not the noisiest and not the quietest.

The only caveat is that its "by consumers for consumers" so the ratings will inevitably be the opinions of someone who's enthalled with their new purchase, rather than any true scientific comparison....
edit
ooh - err didnt see that!
Theres also a direct link to a commercial site ,so the ratings may not be 100% from real consumers.
Cynical bstard that I am...
It is on my to do list.

You risk gross generalisations by treating a brand as being homogeneous (N.B. ≠ Oscar Wilde?) in quality.
A bit like Jim Beam; there's a multitude of varieties and qualities; some may give pleasure while others you wouldn't touch...

Probably not quite that bad, although I suggest we all - on occasion - feel we're held to ransom by our cars.
