Trial and (not much) error served me well while doing mine
I unplugged the multiplug from the rear lamp cluster and put a multimeter probe into each hole in turn whilst operating the lamp circuit in question.
The correct wire was then soon identified
The earth (not the correct term) is green and yellow -theres a handy connecting stud near the lamp.

The wiring appears to be a ribbon but the cores can be carefully separated to allow for scotchlokking-use the red type as the wires are very thin section.
I have done a few installations directly to the loom without any problems but I would advise you splash out on a bypass relay-especially with a citroen.
The benefits far outweigh the small extra cost

Like OJ says theres plenty of info in previous posts if you search the forum for "Towbar"
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top
