benefits of decat and egr blanking
#21
With regard to egr blanking, the Siemens engine management systems will report error codes so it cannot easily be done.

It'll be interesting when checking cats becomes part of the MoT procedure, although I can't see it on the VOSA site as yet.

A bit late with the photo sorry but here it is anyway ..... The spring clip just to the right of the cloth braid needs to be unclipped which gives access to the egr feed pipe, insert a metal disc in here and off to go. I found it a lot easier to access than the tap off point at the rear of the engine and there is no risk of snapping bolts and the nightmare that could ensue. If this " mod " doesn't suit you then it is easy to put it back to normal in a space of a couple of minutes.

Thanks. That's exactly where I was going to try to put a blanking disc. Do you remove the electrical connections from the butterfly valve in the big tube?

Berlingo 2.0HDI 2004.
Can someone explain if my original exhaust system will likely be blocked after 9 years and how it will affect OBD faults and general MPG.
I have just had an MOT and it passed the smoke test easy but i did not see any other emissions tests that were made, this leads me to ask why does it need a Catalyser?? does it!.
Thanks
Bob

Sorry I thought I'd replied to this.... no I left all as it was just in case I needed to revert to standard spec. I also left all alone to keep everything moving and not to get gummed up during the trial period. I found the vehicle ran well enough this way so left it as was.

Cant find if I commented before or not but heres my findings

On the 07 1.6hdi berlingo

Decat is brilliant. Much better power everywhere. Much better economy. I suspect it uses more when drove hard but you go places faster than before.

Egr blank. Iv tryed it before and after decat and I think it makes a tad less power and uses more diesel. Better off just keep it clean.

and where do you get one?
also the same goes for egr valve...

New here,so please bear with me.
My cat had split so sourced decat pipe from ebay.
Came from Scottish highlands of all places & only £45.
After some research removed vacum pipes from egr & blanked
it off from exhaust up. I used a drinks can cut up. Worked perfect.
My van runs very sweet and seems to pull better from lower rev range.
(ie more torque)
I'm averaging over 400 per tank. Almost forgot i put small self tappers
in existing vacum hole's. I'm know looking into removing the egr return feed pipe, but need more research at the moment.
I hope this help's.

What twice? I get over 400 per tank in my 1.9 and I thought the 2.0HDi was supposed to be miles better than that.
