Engine swap.
#1
Hi all I'm pretty new to the berlingo scene and I'm wondering how difficult it would be to put a 1.9 td engine in my 1.9d 2005 berlingo. I need some guidance lol any help appreciate. Thanks.

That depends on your mechanical ability, the tools and equipment that you have,
not to mention your knowledge of things Citroen.
You say you're wanting to put a 1.9 td (?) in your 1.9d. You'll need to transfer all of the electrics
from the turbo-diesel engine management to your 1.9 as it will be ECU controlled. This could
be a tedious job if not working in a reasonably equipped workshop. Not a job for the faint-hearted!
Personally I wouldn't bother! I'd keep the 1.9 until I could afford a 2.0l TDi sell one and buy the other.

Which 1.9td did you have in mind??

I am a motor mechanic to trade. I have a good size workshop mate. The engine I had is out a 95 405 I have lying so have everything I'd need. Would it work. Cheers.

For a definitive answer to that question you'd be best hanging on until
ADDO picks up on this thread, he will know. Or you could send him a PM.
I wasn't questioning your professional abilities, it's just that there are
inexperienced folk out there who would attempt to do this on their front lawn!
(with no manuals or the correct tools and they'd quickly realise that they'd
bitten off too much!)

I have to tip my hat to a bloke called "flez" who rebuilt his XM autobox on the roadside, working through the left wheelarch. On that basis, it has to be possible to swap a motor on your front lawn.

Physically the engine should fit no worries - make sure you get all relevant heatshields. You may need to relocate a few smaller items to accommodate the intercooler piping. You'll need an unlocked ECU and if the pump is armoured/immobilised this will need sorting. Sensors for the dash should be swapped over from the old motor.
