E petition

Hi everyone I know there are a lot of bikers on here that may be interested in this e petition but it could apply cyclist car drivers truck drivers or anyone who uses the road. Have a look at the petition and sign it to try and get justice done then pass it on to others.

Just to give you a bit of back ground the biker was killed by a special constable pulling out of a junction on the A31 while using here mobile phone and now the cps say they dont want to prosecute.

Whilst generally I'd agree with your statement, the petition is badly worded i.e. it gives no reasons for the case to be reopened, and also I have no faith in e-petitions in general.

Regardless of cause, e-petitions aren't worth the paper they're written on. Its a lazy tool for an apathetic nation. Whatever happened to writing directly to the PM, or your MP?

Already do that but you have to use every option open to the make the public aware of what the authorities would like to keep quite.

I think that once they have 100,000 names then they must be looked into.
Just checked it out, - e-petition can be open for up to 1 year, then if they get 100,000 signatures then they MAY be debated in the House of Commons

I have to say that as sad as the whole tale is, I think that ultimately the motorcyclist was to blame.
The approach on either side of the junction is hatched with diagonal lines.
These should be regarded by drivers as the same as a traffic island. In order for the bike to be overtaking queued slower traffic he must have used the hatched area.
Opposite him there was very likely to have been traffic queuing to turn right. Even if there wasn't when he started the manoeuvre there could have been at any time during the manoeuvre. He should have allowed for this. He probably was aiming to use the same space as the police car subsequently occupied and was left with nowhere to go.

I agree. He was overtaking stationary traffic at a junction and was doing so at sufficient speed for the accident to be fatal. Doesn't mean she shouldn't be prosecuted for using her phone as it may still have been a distracting factor, but I don't think it was her fault.

E-petitions dont do that.

Publicising of matters does, e-petitions are just a convenient way of deflecting the focus of the public to somewhere that doesnt matter, because all it is is a few millibytes of data stored somewhere on a Government servet, not a sackful of mail or a group of protestors.

Easy to ignore, and make people think they've done something worthwhile, when all they've done is take 10 seconds to click a button...

You just answered yourself in your first few words, Its out there in the public domain and many people read about an issue that they didnt know about before.
Its up to them if they want to do something or click on by.
