Hi guys, we need to get the timing belt and water pump changed on the wife's 2003 1.6 16 valve petrol Desire and I was wondering how long it should take for a good mechanic but not main dealer to do?
Cheers Drew..

Do you mean drive in, drive out elapsed time, or chargeable hours? Are the cam and crank seals being changed?

Sorry not very clear, I meant chargeable time, and it's belt, pulleys and water pump, the seals aren't being done.

I had mine done at a Citroen specialist , £315 which included cambelt , water pump , tensioner , fanbelt and tensioner , I left it the night before so it could be done cold and it took them a morning !

Citroen main dealer £295 including belt kit fitted, no waterpump. You can supply a water pump yourself and get the mechanic to fit it. I think its not a bad price for main dealer and genuine parts. I will probably be having mine done this way after I've chanced it a little bit more, I paid roughly the same amount for my 2.0 hdi van.

I had it all done today, Timing belt kit, Water pump, Aux belt and he had it up on the ramp and gave it a good check over for me, although I couldn't find anything wrong we only got it a few weeks ago and it was good to have the opinion of a mechanic that I know and trust. He couldn't fault the car and said it was in first rate condition. Including parts and 3 hours labour it came to £320. I don't think that was too bad.
