I want to put a CD player in my 2003 Hdi Berlingo to replace the cassette player - I know if I buy a secondhand Citroen CD head unit I will have to get the unit coded to the ECU to stop the annoying 'bleep bleep' every few seconds but will I encounter any problems with the ecu not 'recognising' an aftermarket CD player? Anything I need to know about wiring up an aftermarket unit in the Berlingo (wiring adaptors etc) ?
Thanks in advance

Hi
I've just replaced the head unit in my 2004 2.0Hdi with an Alpine unit with Bluetooth hands free. Fairly straightforward job and I just used the cable included in the box. All works fine and I'm very pleased.
Just be aware:
1. I needed to swap the red and yellow power leads to avoid losing station/audio/etc settings every time the ignition was switched off. Search other threads on here for info.
2. The multi-function display still shows date/time/doors open etc. OK, but doesn't show any radio info. - have to look at the Alpine unit for that.
3. The remote control on the steering column no longer works. I was offered an adaptor for this but it was very expensive compared to the cost of the new unit. Anyway it seems to me to be just as easy to use the controls on the head unit.
4. I also swapped out the feeble original speakers in the door panels and rear modutop for Kenwood and Sony units, respectively. They handle the extra power better and sound WSW much better.
5. You still have to put up with the infuriating Eco-Mode turning the unit off about 30 mins after turning the ignition off. I think the period can be increased to 90 mins if you have access to a Lexia, or you can wire the head unit directly to a fused permanent 12v supply. I couldn't personally be bothered!
Hope this helps.
