Wheel bolts

Hi everyone.

Quick question about wheel bolts.

I have just fitted Peugeot 205 alloy wheels to me Mk2 Van. The alloys seem to be thicker than the steelies and therefore the bolts do not screw in as far with the alloys as they do with the steelies. Is this a problem or will it be ok as long as the bolts have enough thread to tighten and there is no movement or gap?

Get longer bolts!

I have spacers on my van & alloys. The answer is indeed longer bolts.
Try the nuts & bolts shop in Roachford Essex. They are on eBay & they are very good. Used them on numerous occasions. Good luck .

Make sure you use the type for alloy wheels -square shouldered.
A vehicle that had steels fitted at the factory will usually have tapered shoulder bolts.
I'd hazard a guess thats why you're finding your original ones 'too short' because the wrong profile of the holes are holding them off?

Emailed an alloy wheel company and they said to "make do" with origional bolts as ones to fit 205 alloys to berlingo would most likely need to be custom made!?!?!?! :O

I think you were talking with the tea boy.

You could end up stripping the threads in the hubs if the bolts don't go in far enough.
If you've got the tapered shoulder bolts they could fracture the holes if you really tighten them when trying to get at more thread.

The only fitment differences could be the centre bore size and the offset.

However in this case Carl Salter says the bore is the same

But just check;
Do your alloys all seat nice and flat on the hubs without forcing them on?
Yes is the right answer.
Is there any up/down movement when they're on there without the bolts
No is the right answer

The offset is just worth a quick look but its mostly fairy stories around MK2s not accepting Slightly wider wheels.

If the wheels are standard Peugeot 205 then standard '205 alloy wheel bolts will fit them to your van perfectly.
New bolts are best but ebay will yeild 16 used ones for much less.


But do bear in mind if you fit ANY used bolts to your car it will flip over into a fireball and the Book of Revelation will come true and your insurance will be invalid.

Do NOT even think about driving with wheel bolts that may be too short!

Don't be tempted to buy the cheapest available....the suppliers don't mind if
