I need to change the locks on my Berlingo. It's a 2001 Multispace, and none of the locks work on the doors. I can see lots of sets on ebay, but all the cheap ones seem to be for a twin rear door - whereas I have a single door. My question is can a lock for a twin door be converted to work in the single door?

I also guess the keys are all coded, so if I were to replace the ignition lock, I'd need to get the new keys coded to the old single key I have?

if you were to change all the locks including your ignition then the old key would be of no use. Some keys have a transponder in them which can be fitted to the new set. If you do a search for "transponder" or for "keys" you might find an answer.

i had to change the locks on my multispace, i got a 2nd hand set from a partner, i was able to open the key casing (just clipped together) and swap the transponder with my original.
MK1 Berlingo, Y-Reg 1.4 Petrol Now LPG Converted.

Thanks for that. My ignition key is fine, and I believe a transponder is in it, as when I went to have a key cut for it I was told that it did have to be reprogrammed.

How difficult is it to change the ignition barrel? I take it I'd have to drill out the bolts?

To be honest, I am not bothered about having one key for the doors and another for the ignition. It's just I really wanted to know if all the lock barrels are the same, and you just change the thing on the back whether it's for a door or tailgate - or whether the tailgate lock is completely different. At the moment I cannot lock my car as none of the locks work. Mind you, it's been like that for 2 years since I got it - and nothing has happened to it - but it is gold and looks a bit rough.

I bought a full new set (valeo) of locks for my old Mk1 bingo which fitted in no problem. The ignition barrel is held by a shear bolt which you will need a centre punch to to loosen it. Also the key has to be in a certain position so the little "tit" on it can be pressed in. Had to modify the new key though to accept the transponder chip. :thumbsup:

Is there an easy way if knowing if my key has a transponder? To me, it just seems to hold the metal bit in it with a couple of rivets, but it seems to be a solid plastic key fob. I can't see any way of prising it apart.

Not sure about what you mean about the tit bit?..

If you have just a basic key ie no remote central locking button hold the key and look down the blade you will see a small black square in the black body. The transponder is under this little plug I am led to believe. Its like the old fords that had the red or blue piece on the fob depending on what type of transponder, it was common when your key was worn to get another cut then take the transponder out and pop it in new key. Had a renault too that I did this to. Not had to do it on my berlingo key yet but just be careful.

On the new key I had to drill a hole to accept the transponder chip then sealed it with some silicone. :thumbsup:
