Console rattle
#1
Forgive me if this has been discussed before but I've searched and found nothing.

Since picking up my new 75 Enterprise a week ago its developed a strange noise from the centre console, I say noise but the sound is more akin to someone shaking nuts and bolts in a metal tin very fast almost a metallic buzzing noise???

On close inspection and various things tried noise only appears when the gearbox is cold and gets worse when the clutch pedal is pressed or released???

Anyone heard of this before, I'd like a rough idea what it is before I take it back to the dealer.

Thanks

I had the same problem.
After many wasted visits to the dealer and various garages, the problem was sourced to my Grandmother (who I had locked in the boot 3 days earlier) shaking nuts and bolts in a metal tin.

I have some thing similar , mine rattle in third gear , mostly when i'm roling without anny engine trust . Gets worse if i put my hand on the gear lever . i believe it could be the gear shifting cabels ? I'm going to look more in to this on my next service, 2-3 weeks from now

Hi

Did this problem get resolved...

I have a brand new XTR , 200 miles on the clock....does exactly the same....wife not to impressed....suspect it is the gear changing cables...only happens when cold...soon as car is warm disappears...driving me nuts...will take to the dealer this week

Thanks

I'm waiting for it to go for its service before I mention it, I also think its the gear cables, but over the last couple of weeks noise has got a lot quieter to the point I can no longer hear it.

I will still mention it at service time as the gearshift itself is truly awful, like stirring a bowl of nuts and bolts.

Many thanks for getting back... l have had my xtr for a week and like you think it is where the gear change cables enters the car leading to the console....have gone back to citroen today and booked in for next week...if it improves by then will cancel as l don't want them destroying half of my new car...will put it down to settling down...l assume there are gromits under the car and being new they are tight...when the car heats up and bearing in mind the exhaust is near there...the heat softens them up...thus noise goes away when engine is hot!!! My take anyway...could be totally wrong....but all the same ...very annoying with a new car which l have only put 200 miles on the clock!!!!

Thanks again.

The trade term is stirring a bucket of s--t with a piece of wet string.Confusedalut:

Take the tin off her.

I had the same when mine was delivered in november. Sounded very much like the clutch release bearing. 11k miles onwards and its perfect. (As perfect as a Citroen can be anyway)
