Citroen Dealer using Quartz 9000 in 1.6HDi?
#1
Just had a service on my 2011 XTR 1.6HDi at a main dealer and beforehand I asked if they used Ineo ECS 5w30 oil. They stated via email that they used "Quartz 5w30" which I figured would be it.

However the job sheet states they used 5w40 which I'm guessing is Quartz 9000.

The book that came with the vehicle states the only authorised oil to be used is "synthetic anti pollution 5w30 (B71 2290)".

Would you make a fuss and get it changed? As I see it, the wrong oil has been used, it's not even a low SAPS oil!

Yes

You need some kind of indemnity in case the the turbo fails. Quartz 9000 does not meet the PSA spec B71 2290

And I would complain to Citroen UK

Certainly worth letting Citroen UK know that their Main Dealer is not complying with
the recommendations of the company.
I would insist that they change the oil to 5w30 ECS or give you a written indemnity
against turbo failure at any time in the future. My repairer ( PAS specialist ) uses
5w30 ECS in all PAS diesel turbo engines.
The Older I get the Better I Was!  Cool

According to Total oil website Quartz 9000 is ok for 1.6hdi but but Quartz ineo ecs should be used if dpf is fitted as ineo is low saps required for dpf. My main dealer workshop in Colchester stated that 9000 was ok for xtr 110bhp & as mine is 09(only 110bhp had dpf on early mk3s I think)I don't think ineo was available then & he stated they would use 9000 unless I wanted to 'upgrade' to ineo. This service I took it to my other local Citroen main dealer workshop in Clacton & receptionist told me that "they use ineo as a matter of course now" so they used ineo at this 4yr service.

I emailed Citroen UK about this last yr & they stated both 9000 & ineo are suitable for Mk3 hdi. I would think from this that the only problem with 9000 is that not being low saps it might shorten dpf life.

They've come back and said the oil they used is "Magnatec Professional 5W-30 C2" which is B71 2290. I imagine that's fine but it's slightly annoying as I would have supplied ineo ecs myself had they replied correctly in the first place.

Incidentally when I was in there, the service manager was on the phone ordering a replacement turbo for a customers 1.6 HDi!

If look on Castrol website, click on oil finder & put your reg no in you will see that is the correct oil so should be no probs.

I had presumed they would have to use total oil. They've charged £10 a litre for the castrol, so I'm sure there is a very healthy mark-up for them.

I will supply my own next time!
