Stiff Accelerator - 98 Berlingo
#1
How's it going folks?

I bought my first motor of any sort the other day and she's working fine.

98, 1.8 Diesel Berlingo.

Everything is working fine except that my accelerator pedal is very, very stiff. I've had this verified by much more experienced drivers. All I could think to do was to make sure the throttle cable wasn't stuck somewhere. It's not.

Honestly, it feels more like there's a problem with either the part or the mechanism itself.

I've had a quick scan through the forum and I can't seem to see if it's a known issue or not.

Can you help?

Cheers.

I did this to mine and it improved it. I think that the stiff pedal is the same on all 1.9

Mine's quite stiff too - petrol 1.4, though. Gave me a major knee-ache once over three days (2700km) of driving.

As an aside to the stiffness I found that the square ribbed pedal wasn't as comfortable underfoot as my old C15 pedal so I carefully rolled over the corners which helped and later on I noted that the angle of the footplate was too flat so I introduced a more curved surface - much better. Finally I noted on my pedal that the angle of the footplate at rest was too horizontal so I introduced a bend in the main pedal arm and now the feel underfoot is far better with greater comfort and much improved sensitivity / throttle control, more a case of moving the foot control from the ball of the foot area forwards more towards the toe area. It took a bit of fiddling and a few visits to the so called problem but it was worth the effort. Hope this helps.

Some good hints there. All I could think about was cruise control.
