Where do i start Mk11

Well i have come to the last thing to change to stop my smokie Joe Dw8 and i think it must be the pump.
Changed all and sundry two or three times and still no change but evan though its not run for more than an hour in the last two weeks (only run for a few minutes after each change of injectors/leak off pipes etc etc...) there is quite a build up of glitter in the filter housing.
So i am hoping its the pump breaking down inside question is would it make it smoke so bad?.

Have you checked valve clearances?

A bit tight Steve but not ott, gonna reshim them while putting fresh pump on.
Thing is i dont know the history of the car so dont know whats been done before hand only 68k on the clock.
