GPS on Mowers
#1
Just read that a Council has forked out £156,00 to track vehicles over 5 years by installing GPS in their vehicles.including their ride-on mowers.

Well, isn't grasscutting as critical an exercise as delivering truckloads of concrete? Five minutes too late and you've done your dash...

Assumed it was to help locate stolen vehicles, but others suspect that it could be seen as a spy in the cab.
Grasscutting / Greenkeeping is a very skilled job.

Here, they do it simply to keep tabs on what they imagine are tardy employees. Of course, nobody in the office watches YT, or surfs Fleabay or posts on FB (even on their phone if the work computers are blocking it)... Our wheelie bins are microchipped, so each tipping into the truck is caught on camera and logged by weight and "contributor". Councils are the experts on squandering.

We have had trackers fitted to most of our work vans and lorries (local authority but not the council) for around 2 years now. They can tell how you are driving -ie erratically, over revving, harsh braking/ cornering etc. We have had loads of problems with units interfering with the vehicle OBD's.Firm spent around half a million on this system and we reckon its a waste of money. Going round a corner or roundabout in some of the vans at 10mph, sets off a warning on the unit which is registered as bad driving against the driver. All the drivers have been issued with a fob which must be used to silence the unit every time the vehicle is started. Even the guy who came from the company to fit them said they are not fit for the job and should not used on our type of vehicle.

Maybe they'll let you track them on a map ,like they do with the gritters .

I've just looked at the Essex County website & they are going to have the tracking of mowers available Confusedillyme:
