Strange noise from steering

Hello,

Just traded our 2003 Berlingo in for a 2009 HDi 75, and collected it today.
Much quieter car, and like it so far, although the old floor-mounted gear shift was much smoother in the old model.

Anyway, last week when I went for a test drive in this car I noticed what I can only describe as a "swooshing" noise from the steering. Only noticed it at low speeds, particularly at roundabouts or 90 degree corners. Anywhere you had to turn the wheel a good bit. Mentioned it to the salesman and he speculated that maybe the power steering fluid needed topping up, and that they'd check it.

Collected car today, after the garage had supposedly given it a though Citroen pre-sales check, and the noise is still there. No juddering or anything bad, just a strange noise.

Anyone ever experienced this?

Mine does the same thing, it doesn't appear to have got worse over the last year of ownership, and the fluid is at the right level.

This car has just gone through a Citroen pre-sales check so should all be fine.
Make the noise more when turning the wheel right. Only a little noise when turning left.
Sort of a hissing noise. nearest thing I can compare it to is a CD skipping or spinning round but not playing.

My 2010 did it from new.
Unless its drowning out the stereo its nothing to be concerned about.

Strangely though my current 12 plate doesnt do it.

My C15 did it but it didnt have power steering -the noise was the sound of my arm muscles straining.:eek:

It will be the relief valve in the power steering system, normal.

Yep, ours does that too. Funnily enough more turning right than left.
