Berlingo Exhausts and Cats!!! Help needed!!

Help need to select correct Cat and Tail box for my Berlingo.

I have a 28:11:2002 Berlingo M-Space Forte D, 1868cc (with face-lift) and need a new Cat section and rear pipe and box.

Some online exhaust supplier are a bit uncertain which exhaust I need as it was registered very near a manufacturers update.

Is there a surefire way of specifying the correct exhaust or of even being able to identify an incorrect part that is available?

I've got a collegue who sells Birmans. But they don't take kindly to being inserted into metal pipes apparently.

Work off your RPO, which is on the driver's door jamb sticker near the upper hinge.

The "first" type of front pipe/cat (1705.QN) relates to RPO 9883 and lower, while the later type of front pipe/cat (1706.12) relates to RPO 9884 inclusive and higher.

As you say your car is 2002 build, it will almost 100% be the first part listed.

Your rear silencer is 1730.Q7; all other numbers supersede to this. The centre section as a whole, remains 1731.Y1 throughout.

For a LWB version, there is 1717.QW which is a short extension between the rear muffler and intermediate section. Fixings remain the same throughout.

I had the same problem - was busy getting prices for parts when * B A N G * my exhaust fell off in the city centre, so I had to cut off the back box which was still hanging, and make loud tractor noises to the nearest (NTS) garage.

Shiny new parts arrived, and quote price-matched my local KwikFit, was efficiently fitted and hung -

...B U T ...

Nice tight new exhaust sits very close to my gearchange rods, and every time I take my foot off the gas the shiny new exhaust strikes my gear change rods ...

so front box removed, measured against the broken section, replacement box ordered . tick tick tick - two hours later - new seals, new pipe fitted and with slightly better clearance

...B U T ...

Still knocks when decelerating, and sometimes when just dropping the gas pedal - clearly a sign of sloppy or worn engine mountings. Is there a work around ???

OK, up thismorning to taxi kids to school, knock knock brrrrrrrrrr brrrrrrrr brrrrrrrr knock knock knock brrrrrr brrrrrr ...

seems like the central mounting donut is too short and too soft, so made a girdle by wrapping a few sturdy cable ties round it. knock knock - bye bye

I think this was missing when the previous system fell off....

Follow the drop down lists to get to your vehicle and you will see the changeover and the two systems available.
Looking at the part numbers will give you dimensions etc ( may have to put the number in a different listing eg product search on their front page ).

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I also need a new backbox!:brickwall:

Noticed that the back-box is hanging down quite low, seems the integral band-clamp has rusted away, so its only a matter of time before the thing dumps itself onto the ground in a shower of sparks:lol:

Having trouble finding one on eBay, for some reason most don't seem to fit my model of Blingo???? cratch:

.... Now here is a tip for everyone which will save you all money .....

...That clamp for the back box needs to be mounted with the two clamping halves sitting vertically / fixing bolts horizontal ......otherwise the clamp will hold water and promote rust. This rust will then eat away at the centre section pipe on the flared joint leaving you to replace this as well. Since the cat is located in the centre section ( on my vehicle ) it could become expensive !!!!

How do I know this ? Because I've just done my back box and now need to buy a centre section. The best I've found so far is £64 but should get it cheaper with a bit more searching. I paid £23 for the back box on Ebay delivered to my door. Buy the clamps in the local motor factors they are a pound cheaper than Ebay or other places.

i have just replaced my system on a 04 1.9d blingo,my cat was ok so i bought a cat repair pipe (£15.50 delivered from ebay 290859349683)which is a doddle to fit,just measure and cut from the back of the cat also bought a back box for £22 from eurocarparts so for less that 40 quid replaced most of the system
