Alarms (motorhomes)
#1
I have just bought a used Autosleeper Mezan campervan, with apologies to Romahome owners as it's a shameless clone based on the Partner platform. Being new to to motorhomes, I wondered whether Romahome users, or any others if it comes to that, consider it essential to have an alarm fitted as it has always struck me that from the thief's point of view a touring motorhome must contain lots of interesting stuff and worth checking out if the opportunity is there. Ours will also be standing on our drive when not in use and could be regarded as a potential target.
Alarms can be a nuisance so I don't want to fit one if these vehicles are no more vulnerable than a car. If I do have one fitted, does anyone have any recommendations as to what makes to go for? It seems I would need a Thatcham 2-1 since there is already an immobiliser on it.

Thanks for the link. I'd looked at one or two sites via google but not that one - looks a good system but don't like the look of POA under price.
Re your comment about the neighbours, I am very wary about fitting one as I'm aware they can be a pain. I once had a Rover with a factory fitted alarm and it was never any trouble. I gather it's the retro fitted jobbies that can be a nuisance.

Im sure if you get a good make and fit it very carefully to avoid false positives you'd be fine.

The vehicle has an effective immobiliser as standard so the risk of outright 'GTA' is at a minimum.

The deterrent aspect, and prevention to a degree, can be done in different and much cheaper/effective ways....

That leaves the alarm part itself.
You've already deterred the opportunist so its the determined and planned worker youre left with.
He will be done VERY quickly so the hi-tech high cost gadgetry will only be telling you (and everyone else around)that "its too late-they've gone!"

I love gadgets and new toys the same as the next little boy - its just the concept of alarms that I dont subscribe to.
