Door Handle Problem

Hi all,

I'm a new convert to Berlingo's having recently bought a 53 plate 1.9D Multispace Forte and I must say I'm mightily impressed!
However, the rear offside sliding door handle isn't working, it's loose and floppy! I assume this is because the cable has snapped or has worked itself loose.
My question is: Do I need to remove the sliding door in order to gain access to and remove the door card and then fix the cable or can the door be kept on (but shut) to remove the door card etc?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome. The door in theory has to be removed from the vehicle....

However there are some checks you can make, if you remove the interior door card with door closed and examine the link rods on the lock. One, or both may be disconnected or broken and can be renewed or repaired depending on condition.

This is the first check I would make... Good luck

No. This is not necessary.
Just sit on a rear seat, close the door and do what you want

Well chaps, finally had an hour or so to spare to look at the door handle problem.
Thanks to PK7478 and Adam, I didn't have to remove the door, just popped off the grommets, undid a couple of screws and removed the door card; to find ................... nothing wrong at all!!
Further checks were then made and I ultimately removed the actual handle/lock, again all looked well but the handle was still flapping. With a little back-engineering I finally discovered that the graphite? barrel through the flapping handle had sheared; something that couldn't be repaired by me.
I called my local Citroen parts garage and found that the barrel isn't supplied on it's own so a new handle and casing would need to be bought, then the correct colour sprayed blah blah blah; all at a cost of £76.02! Suffice to say, I didn't bother.
A search online took me to fleabay and low and behold, a nice chappie in Poland is selling the barrels on their own for a tenner; should have gone to ebay first!
I ordered one and it's lovely (maybe I should've ordered two?!)

Its a common problem I've had it happen on 2 bingos now. At least it is an easy fix though! :lol:

I take it you can open the door from the inside? if so it sounds like the pin that holds the outside handle has snapped. The lower part of this activates the latching mechanism. They're impossible to get in the uk without getting shafted. Fleabay sells the pins for a tenner or so. I got mine from Poland although I did have to dress them a little with a file as they're fairly rough cast. If you're fairly handy and have some general tools it takes around 45 mins. You will need some torx bits! Any ? ? ? give me a shout. Do a fleabay search for 'citroen berlingo door handle pin' there are 3 listings now.
