Front wipers won't stop!

I've just had the dealer who I'm buying my Berlingo from on the phone. While preparing/servicing it he has found a problem with the front windscreen wipers. They work ok but when they're switched off they stay on intermittent and don't actually switch off. If the ignition is switched off then on again then they stop.

Any idea what may be causing this problem? If it's a cheap/simple fix then I don't mind taking the car as is and he'll knock something off the price. But if it's a big/expensive problem then I want him to fix it.

I think that it is always going to be safer to ask the dealer to fix it. If he is really reluctant then I would look for a price reduction to match his fear of getting involved.

Do you know if the car has got the "auto wiper" function? Mine has, and on the intermittent setting is temperamental (goes when there is no rain, wont do anything even in monsoon conditions) It might be something to do with this, but a more technically able person will need to help from here

To know what's going wrong, you need to connect Lexia and start diagnostic test of a wipers. If wipers stops by Lexia command, you need to replace COM2000

Hmmmm............ I´ve been looking into this Lexia software & interface. Is this what I need:

Also, COM2000 - is this the indicator/wiper stalks?

I´ve bought a diagnostic reader with a copy of Lexia, and had a go with it tonight.

There is a fault code recorded which says something like "Wiper control incoherance", so I´m assuming the BSI cannot interpret what is being sent to it.

But......

I did the actuator tests on the wipers, and although I could activate the rear washer, rear wiper and front washer I could not get the front wipers to activate using Lexia. Any idea why, or is it still down to the COM2000?

I agree about the auto wipers,mine are permanently off.Technology for technologys sake.Don't complain too much,anybody remember Fords' vacuum wipers from "the good old days?

My dad had an old Ford Thames 7cwt van, think it may even have been a side-valve, with vacuum wipers. They worked great when the engine was on tick-over and there was a massive vacuum beneath the carburretor butterfly valve, as revs increased the vacuum got less and the wipers got slower.
Totally arse-about-face, just as the vehicle built up speed and needed wipers to be working at a faster sweep-rate, they would be in fact slowing down.
