Riiight, rather worried about this.. cratch:

Broken front LH spring, rather than pay the extortionate labour rates at a garage I figured I'd have a crack at sorting it out myself, armed with a new spring and a pair of coil compressors I got to work removing the shock.....

Everything was going swimmingly until the driveshaft popped out and oil went everywhere.. when I slotted it back in the oil stopped coming out but it seems to be seeping, very slowly but its definitely leaking a bit..

have I knackered something, is it not seated right or is this likely to stop when everything's connected back up and in line?

Done a couple of jobs where that's happened to me but after reassembling and topping oil up no further probs.

Thanks for the speedy reply, Can't get the shock back on till tomorrow as I'm waiting on a new dust cover but hopefully everything will be fine...

I'm mainly worried that I might have knackered something, like a seal or whatever by giving it a fistful of hammer (In a downward motion on where the track rod end couples up) to de-seat the shock... guess I'll find out tomorrow :/

Hope you haven't bumped the garter spring off the inside of the seal. The oil seals are cheap and simply fitted; if in doubt order the correct side seal and replace. Lightly polish the rubbing area on the shaft before refitting.

It'll be fine, give it a good wipe, clean all the oil around it off and have a look in the morning. It's more then likely just excess oil sitting where it slots in.

I recon you're probably right and I'm just worrying.

I've put a pad underneath to check for drippage and if its looking excessive I'll look into replacing the oil seal as suggested.

Had a look today and there were a few drips but nothing major, had another wipe but nothing since.. probably was just excess oil around where the driveshaft slots in as you said.

Time to reassemble

Is it an MA series gearbox, or BE? How many bolts hold the tin hat to its nearside end?
