timing out

Hi im looking at a citroen berlingo van 04 reg 1.9 hdi this week hoping to buy the man selling it tells me the timing is out slightly but it runs and drives . He also told me its something to do with the fule pump and mentioned something about easy start ? Also said I could get a timing tool to do the work .

If it's a 1.9 it's not a HDi.Timing pins can be bought quite cheaply,but if you have knowledge you can use drills of the correct size.

If he has been using easy start on it for some time keep away, also if he says the job is that easy to do why did he not do it!?

Like Ron said you can do it with drills and bit of all tread, its not difficult so ask yourself why.

As Polar says if it was easy why aint he done it or got it fixed. If its been hooked on easy start for any length of time you stand more chance getting a junkie going straight. I would be very suspicious.

People tend to use easy start the wrong way, squirt it in the inlet like a water pistol and turn the key, then it sounds like a set of hammers on the engine block it can cause all sorts of damage (broken rings pistons bent con rods) however it is safe to use just to get you out of trouble... first thing is to do is stand the easy start can in hot water and get it quite warm so it will spray a mist instead of squirting, next is to get someone to press the accelerator and turn the key while you spray just a short burst of easy start from a distance from the inlet, the engine only needs the easy start vapour not the liquid, and your engine should start ok. its always best to find out why your engine don"t start from cold and get it repaired
