Most Berlingo Ecu`s are siemans these cannot be tuned via the ODB socket & need chip tuning Ive had mine done by Northwales tuners did a great job it goes like stink & is doing around 55mpg combined

Don't want to be the prophet of doom here but I have previously worked in the commercial vehicle industry at a local dealership. We were main agents for Cummins diesel engines, possibly one of the largest engine manufacturers in the world.

The electronically controlled diesel engines or Euro 1 compliant as they were better known then, were becoming more and more popular about 15 years ago but even at that early stage of development, interrogation and tuning of engines by use of a hook up to a computer was the norm. Any attempt at accessing the ECU was logged in the memory so that retrospectively someone such as a manufacturer or authorised repairer could come along and say "Oh yes, and such and such has been done here, vehicle has been tampered with, bah-de-blah, sorry son you've just invalidated your warranty."

To state that any tampering, masking or hiding of components is not traceable is, in my opinion, being economical with the truth somewhat.

I suspect that even though the Peugeot/Citroen/PSA system does not seem to be as developed or sophisticated as the Cummins, somewhere down the track whatever has been done will have been logged in the system.

I have recently found out that VOSA (Vehicle Inspectorate) and authorised testing stations will possibly be given the go ahead in future for monitoring of unauthorised modification and tampering with devices designed to enhance pollution management.

Ultimately this could mean that in the future a roadside test that reveals such "dabbling in the occult" could mean a fine or confiscation of the vehicle.

Not my words, these are just what I have been told on the subject.

I suppose at some point in the not to distant future we will all have ECU's inserted into our cerebral cortex at birth, and have to undergo monthly re-programming (at a price!) to make sure we all comply with the unseen 'Thought' Police

All Free thinking individuals will be hunted down and sent to VOSA where a failure sheet will be tatoo'd on your person with an advisory notice that you are a hazard to the whole human race and could cause an enviromental catastrophe

Its not banned Yet & once insurance is aware perfectly legal I wouldnt recomend if still in warranty tho. I really enjoy driving the Berlingo now & wish I had it done years ago
