Now you've got me thinking.. I think that the Number plate is on the tail-gate Mk3 2010 MY. Does that mean feeding a wire through the tail gate conduit and down to the reverse lamp or have I missed something obvious?

You will have to connect to the reversing light for them to work automatically, so yes.

Further to StueyT's question and Coco's reply has anyone connected a wire from a reversing light and fed it through the conduit to the area of the number plate?
We have been considering fitting a Chinese camera and mirror monitor on our Mk 3 as both of us are getting on in years and looking out the back seems a bit tricky for us.
Our Xantia, which goes to a near neighbour on Saturday, has a camera fitted and it has proved its worth many times.
Hoping someone can give us some advice or tips.

Depending on the size of the camera, why not mount it under the bumper? I have an extra reversing lamp mounted there which does not cause any problem and it's straightforward to do the wiring.

I just cheat and don't use sensors, i use one of these

With one of these fitted, i can see 7 feet from the bumper
