New member - long time berlingo owner...
#1
Hello all

I have a silver 2004 1.6 petrol desire which I have owned from new.

It's been a great car and gets used as a family run around, for camping loaded with large roof box and for diy and hobbies, golf fishing etc...

I had it converted to LPG in Jan 2008, so I've run it on gas for 3 and a half years. It's run great on LPG although I have just replaced my LPG injectors as they were on their way out. But at 67p a litre, it's a cheap motor to run, so I intend keeping it as long as I can.

I've also taken to servicing it myself (with help from Haynes!) as well as maintaining the LPG system. So, I've been learning more and more about the car and it's ins and outs.

Welcome, I have spent the weekend looking for lpg vans as I do quite a lot of miles and unfortunately mine is petrol and its costing me a fortune, so looking for something cheaper!

Hi

I spent £1200 converting it.

I probably didn't research the various different LPG systems too well in hindsight. What I got was a system well capable for my car and it performs fine, but it's not so widespread in the UK, so parts are hard to get hold of and there aren't too many who work on that system as it's not so common over here.

I ordered replacement injectors from Luxemburg as the UK price was silly. Managed to get them delivered for a third of the price at £70.

I've recouped my outlay and I'm now about £1000 in profit and counting...

Not bad then that your in profit from it, I don't have that kind of money for a conversion, must be nice to know your in profit from from spending the amount you did, shame the parts have to code more than you should have to pay though

What sort of MPG do you get from running lpg, isnt it quite low compared to petrol?

Good to have a convert onboard!

Yes, it's a gamble to do it really. I decided to go for it 6 months after my 3 year warranty ran out and the car was still young with only 35k on the clock, so barring a disaster, I was likely to do well from it.

The more petrol has shot up, the more profit for running LPG.

The injectors are the only thing I've needed so far, so not too bad as I've done over 42k on gas now.

It's slightly less. I get 31mpg from it. I would guess petrol would give me somewhere near 35mpg from the mixed driving I do as most is about town.

LPG by weight produces the same energy and mpg as petrol, but by volume it weighs less, hence in litres it produces 10 to 20% less energy.
