Finally happened-turbo failure

Out of interest Lighty, Was this a turbo failure and what kind of mileage. Just had mine serviced today and it had done about 14,000 miles so about 2000 over due. I did ask them to stick a flush in before they changed it and the next service will be done at about 8000 miles.
Is the turbo easy enough to get off as I'm quite competent with the spanners and feel that the little filter would be better out than in.

The bottom two pics are from a C5 we did last year, obviously the turbo failed on this car, it was actually serviced at a dealer about 2 months prior , and they couldn't understand why no oil came out when they drained it ( I kid you not). They just stuck 4 litres in it .
The 307 I posted pics of, is currently in the workshop to be done on monday, and the turbo feed is ok, but the variable vanes in the turbo have coked up, and the car over boost's all the time, so it will get a rebuild whilst being cleaned.
You don't need to take the turbo off to get the feed pipe removed, just the DPF. It would take you about 2 hours, and is quite a fiddly job, but certainly worth it.Some cars have a different type of banjo, where the filter is around the outside of the bolt, but it still blocks just the same, you just need to tear it off.
Obviously you do all of this at your own risk, but I cannot see it causing any problems, and we have had no failures since implementing this mod.

This is one job I should do, I bought a van last year with a very poor service history, no oil change between 7000 & 26000 (the van was cheap (3 year old 2700 + vat) and I did not know the importance of regular services with this engine) So I changed the oil when I got it (26,000) Then after reading about the engine, a week later I dropped the sump (it was acceptably clean) and changed the oil again. It's now been changed again after 1 year and another 5000 miles.
But I am feared of these banjo bolts, I sheared one off on my motorbike 20+ years ago - So any idea what torque they need tightened to? I worry I would under tighten them, they come loose and oil doesn't make it to turbo and bye bye turbo, very expensive for trying to fix something that was not broken.

Fully agree with Lighty.
REMOVE this filter in the Turbo feeder line, regardless, turbo broke or not.
I did mine today, and even with best of care and only 60 tsd miles, the little filter was half blocked!
BTW. The radiator can stay in the car, but its advisable to cover the inside to avoid damage to it when removing the heat shields and the cat.
It took me 1,1/5 hours in total, and I must say, the Berlingo's aren't that bad to work on, compared to my early mechanic days when working on Citroen DS, ID.

Quick update. Expecting the car back tomorrow, original garage declined the work so that's why it's taken a while. Dreading the bill. I gave them the recommended parts that Cit advised (same as those in API link) but Thers talk of £900 of spares in addition! They fitted a new oil pump which I think is ott the problem being caused by turbo feed not oil pressure. I'll have to see what they say. Have lost trust in the car now though and have a big journey planned next week. See what happens when I pick it up.

Well it works- still! Can't read the bill though, Doctors orders. Seems to drive as good as ever although there is still some black goo on the top of the head, slowly scraping that away. Still think it's going, so someone will have a lovely car!

do you need to drain the oil out of engine before removing that oil pipe ?
