I bought a new Berlingo 1.6HDi XTR at the end of March 2013 and have since covered 5,500 miles. Given that I'm using it fairly hard, I am considering changing the oil and filter at 6,000 miles instead of at 12,000 miles - kind of preventative maintenance.
1) Is this sensible or should I wait until 12,000 miles comes up?
2) How much roughly should I expect to pay for oil/filter change at a Citroen main dealer in a rural location?
3) Can I use an independent instead of a main dealer without voiding the warranty?
Thanks

Well, I'm a fan of frequent oil changes. Certainly a lot more often than that recommended by PSA. I changed mine first after 2500 km, then at 5000, then at 12000 and again at the service for 20000 with my new Multispace. Clean oil is very important in the 1.6 HDi. Many will think my change rate is overkill but oil (proper PSA spec) isn't all that dear. As for dealer or garage pricing, here in Switzerland it is a complete rip-off. Legalised theft. Highway robbery. I do my own and keep receipts.

Now that the engine is past the initial running in phase I change the oil and filter every 9000 km. Cheap insurance IMHO.

Would go with 6 months/6000 miles especially with a diesel turbo if you use independent(or DIY :-) ) then use genuine filters and recommended oil (5w30 on diesel fully synth)
Don't be scared to haggle with the main dealer
they are desperate to get service work back from independents
so best move is to hit them with an independent's quote
