Temp gauge in summer
#1
This is the first proper summer we've had since I bought my Berlingo 1.9D!

On the motorway it will run along flat out and barely move the temp gauge, but in town it gets quite hot quite quickly! Although never into the red.

It's had 2 coolant changes and a new thermostat last year, and is free of air locks as far as I can tell.

Is this normal? Thanks all

Mine (same engine) usually sits at 80 degrees (indicated). If I get stuck in a jam then it can move up to 90 or just about 100 before dropping indicating the fan is kicking in. Takes about 5 minutes to start rising above 90 though. In this weather I've noticed that the gauge seems to sit 2 - 5 degrees higher and moves much more. Doesn't seem worringly high though.

I rarely do town work but can say that once the thermostat has opened my 1.9D sits at an indicated 82 degrees whether it is summer or winter. I did notice the other day the gauge went up to 92 after a good motorway run followed by queuing on the slip road to exit.
Normal behaviour indeed. Just ensure the radiator fan kicks in when hot you should be able to hear it.

Just spent a hour in traffic at Hook on the A3 and can now confirm the fan works!

Thanks all
