alternator problem
#1
Thumbs Up
Hi guys

Having bother with my van. Is a 2000 model with a DW8 engine. The battery light wasnt light on the dash so I thought it was the alternator. Changed it but still the same. I tested for power at the small wire and I dont have 12volts at this wire. Ive tested the fuse and everything is good. The problem is that I dont know were to go from here. I dont have a wiring diagram to trace wiring. Can anyone help me on were the wire runs to and from the alternator and were to go to next.

any help would be great
thanks

Which post to answer?.

Check connections at the engine running relay which is under/near the battery. If your fuse is OK then this relay connectios might be sus.

With the ignition switched on but car not running, you should have 12V at the exciter wire. It's usually fed via the underdash fuse panel, through the instrumentation, to the engine bay and into the alternator.

When I have ingition on I dont have 12v at excitor wire. Anybody have wire number so I can trace to fuse board. I think it wire number is 1972 but unsure as it hard to read.

Sometimes when I start it up the chargering light flash on for a second then goes out again. Never came across this before.
