changing gearbox

i have a 53 plate 1.9d berlingo van and the gearbox has had it. ive found one from a 2001 1.9d and im wondering if it will just be a straight swap? do the mk1 gearboxes fit the mk2? thanks

Welcome.I would hazard a guess that being the same engine & close in years,it would fit.Check the ID of both boxes.Good luck.:thumbsup:

I'm hoping it will be ok. Going to look at it tomorrow. My mate seems to think all the 1.9d boxes are the same even the 206,306 etc. how true is this?

Not totally. They will fit, but the ratios and final drive may be different to yours. Adjacent to the gearbox serial number is usually the variant code.

To be honest as long as it fits that really all I'm interested in. I use it for work and only ever go short distances around town anyway
