Airflow direction control light?

I just took ownership of a 2010 Hdi 90 VTR. Very pleased with it. I noticed that there appears to be no illumination of the airflow direction control when the lights are on. The heat and fan controls are illuminated so I'm assuming a bulb has gone. Anyone advise how to replace? I'm thinking pulling off the three controls and somehow prising away the plate?

Problem solved. Sort of. I gave the thing a good thump and the light came back on. I'd still like to know how to replace those bulbs though. I removed the tray above the unit under the radio and the trim below the unit revealing two screws. I undid them and the unit can then be freed up within the dash. But I was unable to turn the thing around to see the back! No way am I removing the cabling on this thing....
