[Engine] Knocking noise on tickover
#1
Hi,
When I start my 04 2.0HDI, there is a loud knocking noise. It remains at tickover. It is audible within the cabin. If you go outside, it is not so noticeable. I thought it might be a broken engine mount?
The car runs perfectly and the noise disappears when you drive or rev the engine.
There is nothing obviously visibly wrong from within the engine bay.
Anyone got any ideas? It sounds like something has become disconnected and is banging against the bulkhead.

Thanks for your help,

ian:thumbsup:

My 1st thought would be the crankshaft pulley, they fail quite regularly on the 2.0 hdi, have a look t o see if there are iron filings around the pulley area.

Hi

Looked closely for filings - nothing.

I think I need a ramp to get underneath.

Thanks anyway.
