Brake drum removal
#1
Hi,
2001 1.9d van.
Mot due and I have a rear brake that appears to be not functioning properly.
Have tried to remove the hubs to no avail and it seems that you have to remove the centre hub nut. Is this the case or am I missing something here?
Will have to purchase an appropriate large socket if so, anyone know the size?

There are two screws in the drum/hub flange. If rusted,a sharp tap using a copper drift on screw head before undoing may save blood & or tears.
With screws out, sharp taps around drum with a copper hammer will loosen.Refit with copaslip on mating surfaces. Good luck.Confusedalut::thumbsup:

If you put copper grease on the friction surfaces as well, generally the brakes will last longer than the rest of the car.

There are no screws on the drum......hence my thinking that the centre hub nut has to come off. Have tried to upload a pic of an advertised replacement drum which bears this out.[img]http://" alt="[Image: img]

Might have managed it this time!

Can't see the image. However, every Berlingo I've done had screw retained drums.

There should be a torx screw holding it in place. If the screw is out and it's still stuck whack the mounting face a few time with a hammer them tap round the circumference.

So where does this bit go then ?

It was the centre hub nut that held it on. Borrowed a set of big sockets and it was a peice of cake.....maybe someone retro fitted different drums and hubs for some reason. :woop:
