Does anyone know how to remove the sticky-out bit in the middle of the dashboard? The bit with the gear lever, window switches, cigarette lighter, hazard light and door lock switches?
The reason is one of the clips that holds the cigarette lighter into the dashboard has broken off. The effect of the break is that the lighter socket is now rather dicky and overheats if anything is plugged in. We have a set of heated seat covers. Last time we used them, the 12v plug melted. The overheating is due to the dicky connection - the wiring is capable of handling the 1amp the heaters draw.
I want to pull the whole middle unit out so I can wire in the heated seat covers and whilst I'm in there, wire in a lighter socket to be located in the cubby hole behind the stearing wheel (for powering GPS/ phone etc without trailing wires).
