My 2003 Multispace 1.4 petrol has been doing something strange. Every now and then after driving for a while (time varies) the temp gauge suddenly and quickly goes into the red and it beeps and the stop light comes on.
When I check it the engine is not hot or overheating but normal driving temp. Any ideas?

I'd check the temperature sensor as a first action. Check electrical connection for corrosion and a good fit as well. Any error codes visible via code reader?

It's on the thermostat housing generally.
