windscreen washer pump

Here's the washer reservoir & pump on my '98 van.

I don't have working rear washers on the back doors - you operate the switch on the stalk and ... nothing.

Doing a bit of de-rusting, I've got the wing liner off. I see just one pair of wires to the pump.

Is this right ?

There's no sign of twin pumps so I guess the res & pump has been changed at some time for the wrong type. There are signs of accident damage ......................

It's not a twin pump, it's a twin outlet pump, there's two tubes coming off that. It failed on mine, think it was about £9 for a new one, they just push in.

OK, thanks for that.

Does that mean there's a valve somewhere to direct the water to front or back according to which switch is used ?

Looks like some sort of shuttle valve on the tubing at the bottom of the washer pump, with pipes going two ways. How it determines which way to flow, I don't know!!!

think it works on polarity... windscreen switch spins the pump one way (say clockwise), the rear wash switch the other... thus the direction of flow will go up only one of the outlet tubes, as they're angled onto the centifrugal fan in the bottom of the pump from opposite directions.
