Coincidently I was looking at MOT passrates on Honest John yesterday.

The yahoo article must refer to the MK3 berlingo if it's first time failure.
So, at those alledged figures what are forum members 3 year old MK3's failing on?

How hard is that to fix before Mot? 15% are suspension suggesting that some Berlingo owners might actually use their car for what it is designed for, ie a load carrying untility vehicle. Failing on brakes, the next one, is just poor maintenance not any failing of the car.
Many owners including myself who do under 12.5k miles pa will have annual service & mot done together so any fail items would be rectified before Mot anyway.

Had my Berlingo van since new (56 plate) and it has sailed through its MOT's so far. Last year it had an advisory on the tail-pipe section which I had patched up around 7 months before the test. Admittedly the van has only just passed the 21,000 mile mark but it is used every day and in all weathers. All servicing and maintenance apart from its first service has been done by myself. Due to go for its next MOT in 2 weeks time and all thats been done is a strip down, clean and check of the front brakes due to a bit brake squeal annoying me recently.
Here's to another 1st time pass.
Dave.

....and any MoT garage that failed my car for a blown brake/rear/side light would not see my custom again!
I had it happen last year...the guy simply put in a new one and charged me a couple of quid extra.
if you do take your car to one of these specialist MoT centres (or Kwik-Fit!) more than once you deserve to be stitched up!!

The garage I use replaces the bulb and just charges me bulb cost. Generally I check they are all working but I sometimes forget. They are a really good garage.

Without wanting to cause offence ( probably better stop typing  )
anyone who sends their vehicle to MOT without checking the vehicle over for silly things like bulbs ( and tyres ) deserves to be charged for labour for the work involved / given a fail ticket and the nuisance of a return visit to the garage for the retest..........
Specialist MOT Centres / Kwik - Fit ..... strange how so many people seem to agree with this point of view !

Mine failed on numberplate lights not working last year. It was the one thing I didn't check! The tester walked into his office, came out with the fail cert, 2 bulbs, a screwdriver and said "I'm not allowed to change them, so change them yourself while I print out a Pass certificate". Charged me a quid for the bulbs.
The place I have used for years only does MOTs, not repairs. Two older gents, who have a sense of realism about them. They'll happily take you under the ramp and point out what's failed and explain why (or in my case, why something I expected to fail hasn't!). Just yesterday I queried the occasional knock mine makes, so he put it back on the shaker and re-examined it to see if he could spot anything at all. Not a thing. Helpful chaps.
Your local authority will also have MOT-testing stations that don't do repairs. They're used for council vehicles, but the general public can use them.
I'd never, ever go to Kwik-fit or an "MOT specialist centre". Rip off.

While I do tend to agree with you , speaking as an old engineer, I give this particular garage a fair bit of work with recommendations and I think I can reasonably expect a little quid pro quo. No offence taken!
