What a lousy gearbox!

Citroen gearbox action doesn`t seem the smoothest. My 2013 XTR went in the garage since every time I changed gear, it was thratchy and noisy; whilst geezer was filling in the paperwork, I wandered around the showroom trying out the models within. And their gear actions weren`t that much better . . . .

The car was tested, nothing was found amiss. But I`m not happy with it. . . . . doesn`t feel right at all at all . . . .waddya think?

Sorry to hear you are having problems

My 2010 reg XTR 110 has a lovely gearbox with a very smooth action going in to gears with a positive notch as it engages

I've only had it a couple of months so perhaps the gearbox gets better over time

Perhaps others with new 2013 models may be able to comment better than I

Have you thought about test driving another 2013 Berlingo from another garage to see if it is the same - if it's not as bad as yours, you would have a good reason to complain
Most new gearboxes are very stiff and notchy when trying it out with the engine off

Sorry to hear your problems but, I Just picked up my 2013 VTR and the gearbox is as smoth as silk. You may have a duff one.

Sorry to hear your problems but, I Just picked up my 2013 VTR and the gearbox is as smoth as silk. You may have a duff one.

It feels like something amiss with the selector which is cab accessible. My last one was much better, but nowhere near as good as that on my previous Doblo . . . . ! I`ll give it another week or two, see if things get worse. . . . . then I`ll know what I`m up against. I`ve had it 6m or so now.

Like I said, if you can find another 2013 Berlingo to test drive which has the same smooth gearbox that myself and others have, you then will have the proof to take yours back to the garage to get it fixed.

In my experience, most garages will fob you off a few times until they realise you are not going to let it lie and then they will eventually do something about it

The gearbox on a new vehicle may be tight but not to the point of being notchy.
Maybe the clutch needs adjustment....but the response from the dealer seems I'm afraid
par for the course. They attempt to convince you that what you are experiencing
is 1. Something that you are imagining as you are not familiar with the marque.
2. The perrenial " Oh! They all do that sir!"
and then once any guarantee has expired they suddenly, as if by magic, find a problem
and then want to charge you a king's ransom to fix it!
Get a test drive in another one or go to another main dealer and ask them to take your car
for a drive as you believe you may have a slight problem. Once you have had a second opinion
go back to the suppying dealer and insist that you are not happy and that you now have evidence
that the behaviour of your gearbox is not normal for the model.
Be firm but polite. If all of the above is to no avail, the last resort is to reject the car on the
grounds that it is 'not fit for purpose'.
Ring Citroen HQ and inform them that you've an ongoing problem that has not been resolved
to your satisfaction and that now you intend to reject the vehicle.
They will record a complaint as serious as this and maybe even investigate your complaint thoroughly.

!8 months down the line mines smooth changing with little more than a flick of the wrist (its all in the wrist) mind you she's done a bit of heavy hauling

Yes, in my experience email to Citroen UK always does the job, I've done it plenty of times. Click 'contact us' on Citroen UK website. Dealers don't get paid for warranty work unless aproved by Citroen UK so often they can't be arsed. I've had the dealer tell me something ain't covered, I've emailed Citroen & the dealer has phoned me & told me to bring it in. I think you will find that Citroen is acutley aware that they are losing sales to Kia etc with longer warranties & will go the distance to assist customers who shout loud enough & long enough. Its always worked for me anyway.

Just got home today . . . . in second gear. I`d been towing the caravan last week, it wasn`t too bad; thratchy still. But today, it got worse. Rapidly. 3rd gear became unselectable, then 1st, then 5th; by the time I pulled away from the last set o` traffics, 2nd gear was only selectable with great difficulty; it got me home. Now I can`t select any gear; it`s locked in second!
So, if I can`t take the car to the garage, the garage folk will have to come to me!! It`ll be interesting to see how they get it out o` my drive . . .
Not bad for a g`box that didn`t need fixing after all it`s only 6m old. . .
