I've just done the green display swap instead of orange and it is a revelation I can actually see ALL of the screen even in bright daylight so thanks to all those pioneers here who offered their experiences.
Bought on eBay for £18 posted and advertised as Citroen C8 03-08 Digital Clock Display Screen
The parts sticker shows :
EMF B Sagem-00 21673629-4A 1495869077 D00 dated 13/03/04
My vehicle is the M59 2007

I have a (spare) orange MFD type B that I bought & tested before I sold my M59. I also noticed that the stalk button had no effect but the green C5/C8 display I'd bought the previous year worked fine as a trip computer. I sold the M59 with the green display as I wasn't sure why the orange display didn't work. I'm now beginning to wonder if the trip computer function in the display needs to be activated via Lexia. There's certainly a lot more circuitry in the MFD than is needed for a clock.
I preferred the green display, it was great in the daytime but for some reason was not so good at night, I think the backlights were perhaps not bright enough, or maybe too bright?
Has anyone fitted a green display to a B9? There are no menu buttons on the B9 display so am not sure if it's the same underneath. When it stops raining, I'll take a look under the hood.

The trip computer needs activation in Diagbox/Lexia, otherwise the button will do nothing.

True, but I think the Trip Computer function is inside the MFD, so it's possible to buy an MFD with it already enabled or not. If it's not been enabled it won't work. My reason for thinking this is that my first M59 had a Type 'A' 2 line display and no button on the end of the stalk. I bought a Type B display, popped the cover off the end of the control stalk and with a cotton bud stalk inside the control stalk, I was able to toggle the display.

Yes, same with me. I had to pop the end bit out and put a spring with the end cover, so for the button to release when pressed. For all of the 3-line MFD type B that I bought (probably ~5) all worked with the trip computer without a problem. It could be that some are activated and some are not and I was lucky that all were activated. I kind of always assumed that all the 3-line were activated, that is the only difference with the 2-line ones.

Fixed missing characters by replacing the zebra connector and then the fading via a polariser donated from an old LCD screen.
The MFD is an EMF B Sagem-00 21673627- A dated 26/04/03 9650243077 C00 with an 18 pin connector of which only the follow pins are wired in:
4 - unknown at present
5 - unknown at present
7 - 12V+ On by ACC
8 - GND
9 - 12V+ Permanent
17 - unknown at present
18 - unknown at present
The MFD displays the outside temp of which the sensor is within the left mirror housing. Vehicle is a 2003 Peugeot 307 HDi.
However, I'm battling to identify the CANBUS ( High & Low) pins needed for an after market Android Head Unit.
Could anyone please help with a wiring diagram / pinout schematic ?

The twisted pair, usually red and white should be CANBUS.

I might be a bit colour blind, or the colours had faded over the past 18 years as I can't relate to a white and red pair...
Here's pins 1 -> 9
and then pins 10 -> 18
