display fading (MFD B, not bulb related)
#71
I'll have a look in ServiceBox later once I'm finished at work for the pinout but you're right, there are no CANBUS wires on that plug.

Thanks.

The display does show L/Km & other computer data. So surely the data has to come from .... some wire(s) ... Tongue

It's probably just a bad LCD display. Data connections can't cause a display to fade. You'd just have a bright display with no values if the data was the issue. The zebra connector to the LCD matrix is probably the issue here. Or the circuit that powers the lamps on the PCB. I'll see if I can get you a pinout but if your dash instruments are bright, I'd be blaming the MFD itself.

No, sorry, you've totally misunderstood me.

I've fixed the fading display. That's not an issue.

I'm querying the CANBUS ( + & - ) wires as to connect an Android Head Unit which would then allow me to use the steering wheel controls.

Ah.....you need a connects2 interface. The CAN messages for control of the display are generated by the control stalks on the comm unit of the steering column module. Without the OEM stereo, there is no device listening for those CAN messages. Can't help you there I'm afraid, no one has ever (to my knowledge) got this to work without a CANBUS adaptor that can read the stalk messages and act on the main display or the Android stereo controls for volume etc.

I believe there is no direct CAN connection to the MFD, it went to the stereo and it on turn operated the display.

To get the menu up you press both top and bottom buttons on the stereo control stalk, then use the wheel to navigate. Try this, but without the Connects2 interface which is not cheap, I don't think this works.

But I do have the CANBUS decoder.

The connector to the radio is the 12 pin version, whereas I have the 18 pin connector. And therefore my woes.

The CANBUS decoder, can you tell me more about it? I'm an electronics engineer and interested in this stuff.
