I need to replace the discs and pads on my 2005 berlingo,is this job straight forward or is it a job for a professional. I am relatively compatent mechanically, and have a decent tool kit. any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

This is a very simple job. I will try to write out as good as a guide as i can.

1) Remove the 4 wheel bolts

2) You will now see the hub, with the disk and the brake caliper visible.

3) Firstly, behind the caliper, near the top of it, there will be one bolt (the head of the bolt will be facing away from you/ screws in towards you), you will need to remove that once once out, you will be able to 'swing' open the caliper to remove the pads.

4) Remove the pads (one front one back), and shut the caliper again.

5) Now there will be TWO large headed bolts (torx T55??), they will be on the back of the hub lower down, holding the caliper onto the hub. These will be tough so make sure you use the right tools and don't damage the heads.

6) Once these two bolts are removed, the caliper will then be free from the hub. MAKE SURE you rest the caliper on something, because the brake hose will still be attached, and you dont want the relatively heavy caliper hanging from the soft rubber hose.

7) To remove the disk, there will be two smaller torx screws on the front of the hub (in the same area as where your wheel bolts screw in). Get them out and the disk will be now free.

8) This should all be relatively straight forward, given that your bolts all come out nicely.

9) Assembly is the reverse of fitting, but you are going to need to push the brake piston back in (found in the caliper), because you will find that your caliper wont shut with your new thicker pads in. Pushing it back in is hard, but manageable.

Good luck.
