is possible to remove the front strut, without using spring compressors.
i understand that you only need the spring compressors when changing the spring itself.

Sure, you may need to remove the wishbone to free the ball joint taper but it can readily be done.

After removing the ball joint nut/bolt knock a chisel in the gap to spread it open.

Easier if you bind the spring with a dozen-ish winds of polypropelene draw rope, whilst the weight of the car has the spring compressed. Tie it well, and make sure the binds are even around the spring.

If you just want the spring / shock absorber assembly you can disconnect drop link, undo and remove pinch bolt holding leg into the hub and with a long tyre lever wedged in chassis push down on wishbone and tap on shoulder on top of hub assembly.
Spray it with freeing oil to help it come out.
When it's out of hub undo top mount bolts and remove it.
There is a peg or something on back of leg that has to be aligned with back of hub when it goes back in.
Then on bench you can use spring compressors before removing nut at the top to change the spring.
