who put oil in my expansion tank?
#1
My 51 plate 1.9d berlingo has got loads of oil in the water system..drained it last week to put fresh in with antifreeze and checked the fat top hose and it was full of black thick oil on the inner walls.

Oil in expansion tank too..

My oil level has not changed apart from about 4mm lower on the dipstick over the last 8k miles.

I bought it off work as we had them from new but ive only been there a year.. so I asked someone about the oil and he said the women who had it before me put oil in where the water should go.

Dont know wether to beleive or not but my oil level ok like I said..

Is there anyway to get rid of it and flush it through?

Engine always runs at correct temp and never have a problem with it.

Thanks gaz

It takes a lot of flushing to get all the oil out of system.

If the oil as you said is black it dosent seem right that the women who put the oil in used used oil. Confusedillyme:Rolleyes
New oil will be a darkolive green depending on the make but it wont be black.

The oil cooler on the engine can sometimes leak oil into the coolant system(new seal required) or the cylinder head gasket is leaking .

There will be cleaners that you can put into the coolant system to clean it but I cant think of any at the moment . What I did once was to run the engine, top up the coolant and block the overflow pipe and left off the cap. when the water het up, the oil sitting on top overflowed out of the tank . slow but sure Wink

It's the work of Mr Joint de Culasse; he does it so you buy his wares.

I had this when my oil cooler went pop!
The only way I have flushed out most of the oil, on this and other vehicles (there is still residue!)
Was to mix a big bucket of hot water with about 6 scoops of clothes washing powder.
Add to system let circulate and run engine until thermostat opens, drain and repeat.
You'll get loads of it out this way then flush through with hosepipe to rinse and re fill cooling system.

Is worth removing thermostat to clean it too, flushing matrix separately and the rad too.

good luck!
