Misfire when accelerating.

Hi all

Our 2007 Multispace 1.6 16v has started misfiring when accelerating. I've got the below in mind as possible causes. Does anybody have an idea which is the best place to start?....or maybe other possibilities...

- Dodgy spark plugs/leads/coil pack
- Blocked fuel filter
- Air leak on inlet side.
- Injectors. Any recommendations for some kind of cleaner I can put in the tank?

Keep it simple first.I would change the filter & add a GOOD fuel system cleaner.Then I would change the plugs & check the coil packs.
It that doesn't cure it let us know.:thumbsup:Millers or Forte additives are my favourites.

I have the same engine.

As Ron says, it's best to do the obvious.

There are no leads just a coil pack which could well be the issue. You should be getting the EML flashing or coming on? If so have you had it read?

I've got a filter and some system cleaner (Molykote something or the other), hope to have a go at it over the weekend. Will also take a look at the plugs.

No EML light has come on or started flashing.....can the coil pack be tested or info from a Lexia be used to find out if it's dodgy?

Yes; Lexia shows the coil charge times. They should be within a small amount of each other. Note that the 1.6 petrol has an ECU recognised for developing faults - websites such as BBA Reman also comment on this.

OK - Switched the fuel filter out and the system cleaner is in the tank. I don't know how long this stuff takes to work but after having driven around yesterday (maybe 50km) the misfire is still there. Will try some new plugs, then will have to stop guessing and get it on a diagnostics system. Any recommendations for a good Lexia clone?

A new set of plugs has fixed the problem, no more full on misfires. I still think though that the acceleration could be smoother, it sometimes feels a bit hesitant and the "power" comes on in small steps....good enough though. Thanks for all the suggestions.
