Phone Sex
#1
Did I say phone sex?
Sorry, I meant phone ban.
Now I have your attention....

The road safety charity 'Brake' has started a campaign appealling to drivers to switch off their mobile phones (including hands-free) when driving and for people not to speak to anyone who is driving.
There are some very interesting facts and figures on the link below.

I wonder what Forum members think about a total ban on mobile phones whilst driving?

I spend a lot of time on the road, and another hazard is people reacting to their GPS without due consideration. You see illegal turns, one way wrong-way drivers, and insane reversing all too often.

Much as a ban seems appealing, working on "cause and effect" social responsibility would be more useful in saving people. Not that it will happen when abuse of privilege starts at the top everywhere.

p.s. LOL at the title.

Couldn't come sooner...

I think it's illegal in a few countries already.

The problem is that the terminally stupid is allowed to not just breed, but also to drive...

Big GrinBig Grin I had some dumb cow (I've had blokes do it too ladies), whilst talking on her mobile, cross two lanes and pull out directly in front of me at noon today. Should be a mandatory lobotomy for such folks.

I think should be banned, thought so for long time.
The problem is (whilst not in any way condoning), before it was illegal to hold/use a phone the majority of calls were somethimg like:
"What's for tea... yes that's fine... see you in 20mins, bye."
Or.
"Have spoke to Mr.Smith about the order.. Yes ok... Will be back in the office after lunch, bye."

Today hands-free has BECOME the problem.
Now you can (and many do) have an entire half hour conversation as if you were at home with your feet up in front of the fire with a nice cup of tea!
But you're not.
Now you are in lane 3 of the M6 at 70mph in the pouring rain.
Or doing 50mph through a contraflow in a 38tonne HGV.
Or driving past your local school at 3.30pm.
But it's ok; the Law says it's ok.

...even pedestrians are lost to the world as they step out holding a phone conversation or texting and/ or wearing headphones.

I don't see how talking on "hands free" is any worse than talking to a passenger or having a screaming 3 year old in the back seat.

Who said it was?
But I don't think the Government is going to ban children from travelling in cars.
And passengers should only speak when spoken to.
