Inner tie rod problems

Here is a strange 1 ordered a inner tie for a mk1 52 plate fitted nice but will not track 1 inch out.Ordered another strange exactly same Chucked towel in gave it to a garage same problem. Bit of digging and measuring turns out late mk1 may have 2.0 hdi rack.which rods are shorter.I do like they way French have us running round in circles. The rack on mine was original that came with it. Just in case anyone else measure first.
