Berlingo Van 2.0hdi cut out on motorway!
#1
As above, I was travelling down the motorway at about 75mph with some numpty trying to undertake me when I completely lost power to the engine! The van is a 2001 2.0hdi.
I fortunately managed to get across and into the breakdown lane without having an accident.
It just seemed that the engine cut out and that was it. No power, no revs, nowt. Once we'd stopped, I checked under the bonnet and couldn't see any apparent damage. All belts ok, all plugs and injectors ok, no gushes of oil, just a leakage of a bit of oil from the manifold area that may have been there before.
I tried the engine and it fired up fine. No noises, taps or knocks. No misfires and normal power. Smooth acceleration, turbo slightly whistling under steady load. Just the same as it was before but now the engine management light is on.

I would be extremely grateful for any input as to the cause of this. I'm extremely lucky not to have been in an accident tonight.

Thanks in advance.....

John

Had a good look this morning, no apparent reason for the cut out. All I have found is that the engine oil is a little low and wants topping up a bit. The engine management light has gone out.
I'm going to take it to the garage for the fault code to be read later.
