Tyre wear query

Hi Guys

Has the uneven rear tyre wear/alignment/beam issue that I have read so much about been sorted out now? Is there a fix? Should I be concerned if I am going to buy a used (2 or 3 year old) Multispace from a main dealer?

Mines a 2009 & I've never had a problem. I swap the spare alternatively across the back every 3 mnths & halfway through tyre wear I change front to back. I got 34.5k miles out of the original set of Primacys & I then fitted 5 Avon zx5s, these being a far cheaper option than Michelins. 16k miles later, I have just changed front to back again with 5mm tread on fronts & 6mm tread on the 3 used on the rear. I also check pressures each week, 2.4bar front & 2.5bar rear, 2 up & 2.5/3 for heavy load or towing, so good tyre management seems to pay off.

Full size spare is standard.

I get outer edge wear on rear mainly, so look for non-directional tyres and rotate them

Yes a full size spare wheel was standard with mine & I guess it is still the same. The spare is a proper road wheel, not marked as temp spare with 50mph limit as in case of some Fords for example. One reason to swap around regularly or at least move spare around in carrier is that carrier is wire underslung type which will damage tyre sidewall if just left in there untouched for yrs. My previous Berlingo, a Mk2 was secondhand & spare was brand new, never touched & after removing it from carrier where it had been for 2yrs since car was new, the sidewalls were cracked & tyre unusable, damage caused by carrier pressing into sidewall. So at least you need to loosen carrier & rotate spare around inside it even if you don't use spare.

If your car has alloys then steel spare probably won't get used but it should still be rotated in carrier regularly to avoid damage to sidewalls which would make it unsafe to use.
