Little update found a bleeder on one of the pipes at the bulkhead, with the engine and heater on full i loosened the bleeder till there was just water comming out. The heater has improved slightly but still not brilliant ive heard there is another bleeder will have another look for that tomorrow.
I've only ever found the one bleeder just where you found yours. I suppose you could try flushing out the matrix by disconnecting the pipes and putting a hose pipe on it. I did this on a Pug 106 we used to have. A slug of rusty brown sludge oozed out of the free pipe looking for all the world like .,..... well you get the picture. The heater was great after that.

My heater warms up fairly quickly and gets toasty warm.
Trouble is transferring that heat to the empty, uninsulated, metal box that is my Berlingo van.illyme:
Thinking of putting a curtain behind the front seats for the winter months....

I do this! Use a bungee and an army surplus blanket, behind the seats works a treat and retains the heat for half an hour or so, so you can nip in and out

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

Try blocking off the rear air vents with some tape underneath, might help to keep the heat from rushing out.
A " fume curtain " will work a treat, done this many a time over the years.
