Brak drum dust protector rusty and ripped of
#1
Hi there

Yesterday i changed brake shoes and brake drums on my 2005 berlingo 1.4.
When i started i noticed the shield / Dust protector (thin protector that goes around the backplate, and a little over the brake drum was so rusty, it just broke to pieces when i touched it. So i just ripped it off, like it was paper. I noticed it it was popped onto to the backplate, and i found no holes to mount a new on on.
So now i mounted drums without the shield / protector around it.
Do i really need it?
Will it come a lot of s**t into the drums without them? Or it just to protect rims for brake dust?
In the haynes manual i could not see them on pictures, and no mention of them in the service manual mht files.

I see no reason why you shouldn't be just fine without them.
