EGR fault, P0400/P0402 on 2005 2.0HDi

I may have mentioned this on another thread but on my past car (Renault) that had an electrically controlled EGR valve, unplugging it caused the MPG to drop dramatically, so the valve was left connected but blanked, all ok, but if you read the codes there was a stored code referring to the EGR, but I would imagine that would be the same for most cases of blanking.
